Fire Protection Program

A facility’s Fire Protection Program is designed to provide in-depth defense techniques against fires.  This program should consist of administrative controls and plant design and construction features to;

  • Prevent fires from starting
  • Quickly detect fires that do start
  • Extinguish fires in their incipient stages
  • Prevent or limit the spread of fire
  • Mitigate the fire damage.

For nuclear facilities, specific requirements can vary depending upon the commitments made in the plant’s Fire Protection Program.  Also, prudent management dictates that consideration be given to the most recent standards and guidelines to ensure appropriate fire prevention and protection methodologies are in place, and incorporate these techniques into the program when appropriate.  Tri-en engineers work closely with both the client and the regulators to ensure that the Plant's Fire Protection Program conforms to both the requirements and adheres to Plant safety with respect to a postulated design basis fire and the ability to achieve and maintain safe shutdown conditions.

Tri-En can help assess the adequacy of a facility’s Fire Protection Program.  We start by performing an evaluation of our client’s procedures for implementation of their Fire Protection Program plan.  Then, our engineers assess the FPP elements against industry standards.  If necessary, we offer solutions so that it can withstand the rigors of an audit or review by outside agencies.
